Area Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Police state they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then located numerous other marked cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests suggest the liquid was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; officials are not yet informed of any harm in relation with the event," they commented.
City officials stated they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the public for details.
A senior official said the attack made him without words and had to be solved rapidly.
"This event hits the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he posted on social media, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
